Fish-ball

In the seas Indian Ocean there is a so-called fish-ball. This is a relatively small fish. It swims quite slowly near the coast. Sensing danger, the fish-ball quickly swallows the water, which falls into a special bag. The body of a fish grows rapidly in size and this frightens predators. And how, in this case, the fish-ball breathes? On the one hand, they breathe gills, and water is pumped into the stomach at the moment of danger; on the other hand, many zoologists believe that the ball-fish in the spherical state can not breathe, that it has to hold its breath. Carrying out experiments, it turned out that the fish-balloon, inflated with fright, still breathes, not even through the skin, as might be expected, but through the gills. Moreover, her breathing became five times more intense than at rest: obviously, the protective transformation into a ball requires a lot of energy costs from the fish-ball. But a really dangerous fish-ball has become thanks to its meat. It contains a strong poison. For a man, even the smallest piece of its meat is lethal, not only in raw, but also in boiled form. It acts on the cardiovascular system and nerve centers.

The fish-ball is a very funny creature. These fish are very mobile and maneuverable. Young fish-balls are peaceful, but they become less comfortable with age. Female, usually more males and poorer colored. During the spawning period, on a previously cleaned stone, the female fish-ball lays up to 300 eggs. Care for the offspring is carried out by the male. Fry begin to swim for 6-10 days after their appearance.

The fish-ball is the best snail eater, which it captures with the mouths of the crushed plates. Blowing fish balls have chosen the original way of protection from attack: at the moment of danger they swallow water in a stretchy stomach, so that their body looks like a ball. In some puffers, the skin is covered with spinules, but even without them the swollen fish can easily become stuck in the throat of a predator.
