It is not difficult to calculate that if the brightness of the Sun had weakened by only a few percent, this would lead to the most disastrous consequences for all living things. Moreover, solar radiation is subject, albeit to a small, but complex, periodic oscillation. In addition to the basic and already familiar oscillations with a period of about 11 years, there are other simultaneously acting sun rhythms. Assume that the Sun has arose for many months, and even years, a powerful focus of activity. Clearly, the impact of this hotbed of activity on Earth is not always the same. But the most favorable conditions for such an impact will be repeated every 27 days - the average period revolution of the Sun around the axis. After all, sunspots and other centers of solar activity are almost rigidly attached to the surface of the Sun - their own displacements in the photosphere are insignificant and have an oscillatory character. So, here it is, the shortest, 27-day solar cycle. And now we will clarify something about the main 11-year cycle. First of all, we note that on average this cycle has a period of not 11 years, but 11,1 years. But deviations from this value in some cases can be significant - from 7 to 17 years. It was found that quite often the top of the 11-year activity curve of the Sun has two humps. This "duality" of the 11-year cycle must be reflected in various earthly phenomena.

Sun spots appear in pairs, and each spot is a very powerful magnet. It is remarkable that in each pair of spots both spots have different polarity. If, for example, the head spot, that is, that goes ahead in the rotation of the Sun, has a northern magnetic polarity, then the adjacent spot with it has a southern polarity. But now the 11-year cycle is over, a new one begins. And, as if on command, the polarity of the spots in both hemispheres of the Sun changes. In 11 years there will be a new change in polarity, which means that the picture will be restored, which was observed 22 years before. That's why we can talk about one more, 22-year cycle of solar activity. At the end of the 19th century, astrophysicist A.P. Gansky discovered an 80-year old or so-called age-old solar cycle. The reality of this cycle is confirmed by other data. Are there even longer cycles? There is as yet no definitive answer to this question. According to some reports, a cycle of 1800 years is planned. In addition, in something a 5-6-year cycle appears, equal to half of the 11-year-old. But these rhythms of the sun, if they exist, do not differ so clearly and clearly as the main rhythms - 27-day, 11-year-old and century-old. Do not think that the rhythms of the sun affect only the changes in the number of spots on the sun. During the years of solar activity, solar flares are observed, and the number and size of prominences increase. Unfortunately, until now we do not know the reasons that generate the rhythms of the sun. A lot of hypotheses have been suggested, but their abundance always serves as a sign of a lack of exact knowledge. One thing is certain: neither the Earth, nor its biosphere, nor man can leave indifferent the rhythms of the sun.
