The Krasnoyarsk poles

On the right bank of the mighty Yenisei, opposite the city of Krasnoyarsk, there are numerous cliffs of a chimerical kind. These are the so-called the Krasnoyarsk poles, originally crafted by the forces of nature.

Krasnoyarsk poles belong to the state reserve, the favorite recreation place for people, a place for training mountaineers. Every year they are visited by many thousands of tourists. Krasnoyarsk residents have been visiting the Krasnoyarsk poles for more than 150 years with the purpose of active recreation, playing sports. During this time, the so-called "polemicism" arose and was formed.

In the dense forests of the reserve there are such valuable animals as maral, musk deer, moose, sable, etc. There are almost all representatives of the vegetable and animal kingdom of Siberia. The territory of the reserve, where the Krasnoyarsk poles are located, is located 7 km from Krasnoyarsk and occupies 470 sq. km.

Krasnoyarsk pillars, made up of pink granites, are different for appearance and height. The highest of them rises above the level of the Yenisei at 592 m. Most of all, visitors are attracted by a peculiar "pillar", which is called "Grandfather". And in fact, you see a large stone chair "grandfather" with a wrinkled face and deep-set eyes.

Around the "Grandfather" is the whole family of his stone relatives: "Grandma", "Granddaughter", "Great-grandfather". No less interesting are the other Krasnoyarsk pillars scattered on the large territory of the reserve. They resemble birds, animals, etc.

Scientists believe that the Krasnoyarsk poles were formed about 450 million years ago, when a red-hot liquid magma. But the magma could not break through the earth's crust and reach the surface of the earth. She only lifted it very much, and, having made a lot of big twisting cracks, froze in them.

Thus, near the Yenisei an elevation was formed, covered with a very fragile "roof" of limestones and sandstones. As a result of weathering, blowing and blurring by rain and thawed waters for millions of years the upper layer of soil was destroyed and the Krasnoyarsk pillars were separated from each other. So this "stone miracle" of Siberia was formed.

The reserve flora includes about 740 vascular plants and 260 moss species. The fir taiga predominates, typical of the middle reaches of the Eastern Sayans. 290 species of vertebrates are found on the territory of the reserve. The fauna has a pronounced taiga appearance (forest vole, sable, musk deer, hazel grouse, etc.) with the inclusion of forest-steppe species (Siberian roe deer, steppe grouse, long-tailed ground squirrel, etc.).
