Fruit "devil's apple"

Among the huge wild jungles of the Amazon are many insects, the habits of which have not been studied enough. Take at least a variety of local wasps. These insects, the size of our hornet, usually lay their eggs in a yellowish, melon-like, fruit "devil's apple", which soon becomes sweet and acquires an appetizing red color. This fruit is very dangerous, but it has an attractive appearance, therefore, it is called here a "devil's apple".

Interestingly, all animals avoid this attractive "devil's apple", and people often succumb to temptation. The one who regales on a fruit "the devil's apple" plunges into a strange state. Before your eyes, colored circles twinkle, and whistles in your ears, with time the whistles change pleasant music. After that, a person dreams and sinks into a long sleep. It lasts from 12 to 18 hours, often there is paralysis and death.

Unfortunately, medicine is powerless before the symptoms that cause the fruit of the "devil's apple".

It is interesting that in Russ the Old Believers regarded potatoes as the temptation of the devil. The servants of the church betrayed him anathema and called it "the devil's apple" only! When Peter the First rules, studying the shipbuilding in the Netherlands, he became interested in strange tubers. Then he sent a bag of tubers for cultivation to Sheremetyev. To ensure a wider distribution of potatoes, it was indicated to introduce potatoes over an 11-year period (1755-1766)!

A tricky trick was invented by general R.O. Gherngros. He shared seed tubers with his peasants. But constantly the beds were cut by someone. It turned out that the perpetrators were the peasants themselves. They dug out "devil's apple" and sold them in a tavern. The general began to give out the cut fruits of potatoes to land. It was not advisable to dig them out. The peasants received a good harvest of potatoes and began to breed it in the future. So the fruit "devil's apple" has gained popular recognition.
